Q: How far is MooonShadow Estate from grocery and other stores/restaurants?

A: There’s a convenience store and liquor store 8 miles away, a small grocer and a full service grocery store plus many other familiar retailers and restaurants 30 minutes away in Salida.  The map below has a * that marks the location of the property vs. other places in Colorado.


Q: How much is the deposit to reserve a room/the resort, when is it due, and is it refundable?
A: The deposit is 50% of the total fee to book plus a $500 damage deposit.  It is due when you want us to block out the dates and guarantee your reservation.  Our attractive rental price has created great interest and booking is brisk.  It is advisable to confirm your reservation as early as possible.  You will get a 100% refund of your deposit for cancellations made 60 days in advance of your stay.  Cancellations made less than 60 days before the reservation may result in forfeiting the deposit.  The damage deposit will be returned after a final walk-through after your rental.

Q:  What constitutes “damage” and a forfeiture of the Damage Deposit?
A:  MoonShadow Estate is a luxury rental that is nicely appointed.  We strive to maintain the Lodge in great condition so all of our guests can enjoy the beauty and magic of their Colorado adventure.  We understand the normal wear and tear is to be expected, however there are certain items that will result in an automatic forfeiture of the Damage Deposit.  These include but are not limited to:

  • Riding and/or driving any vehicle on the property where is it not intended.  Specifically all vehicles must remain on either the driveway or the path.
  • Wearing outdoor shoes inside the Lodge.  The majority of home is hardwood floors and there is a tremendous amount of red clay soil and tracking into the property can produce disastrous results.
  • Smoking is not allowed inside the home – enough said.
  • Allowing pets or animals inside the home – this may be allowed with prior approval and an additional deposit

Q: How do we pay for our rental?  Do you accept checks or credit cards?
A:  We accept credit cards, Pay Pal, and checks.

Q: Is hunting allowed on the property?
A:  No.  Hunting is not allowed on the property, but there are some great locations in the area that support hunting as well as fishing, as well as local guides to assist you. The San Isabel Forest is so close for hunting with Trophy sized Elk, Deer, Prong Horn Antelope, Bear and Mountain Lion. For your fishing desire, the Sangre de Cristo Mountains have 52 high lakes stocked with trout.

Q:  Is there tax associated with my rental?
A:  Yes, at the time of this writing there is: Colorado Sales tax of 2.9%, Fremont county tax of 1.5% and lodging tax of 2% percent  – total of 6.4%.  This will be added to the reservation.  This tax will be outlined in your Booking Confirmation.

Q: How many people can stay at one time?
A: MoonShadow Estate is a luxury rental.  The house is very spacious and 20 people can occupy the home inside and 35 total if an outside event.  However, it is not designed for, or intended to accommodate, more than 16 overnight guests. Water usage issues and simple wear and tear require us to limit overnight numbers.

Q: Does the 4,380 sq. ft. include the garage and the Barn/office areas?
A: No.  The house is a nice size.  It is three levels, 4 bedrooms, 2.5 baths with large common areas, a kitchen, laundry facilities, furnace rooms.  The barn is located about 100 yards from the main house and contains an office, full bathroom, 4 stalls.

Q:  Is there internet available?
A:  While MoonShadow Estate should be considered a place to truly “get-away” we do understand the occasional need or desire to log onto the computer to check your emails or look up a correct response for a round of Trivial Pursuit or Scrabble.  For our professional careers we have a WiFi that has been made available for your when we are on site.

Q:  Is there cell phone coverage at MoonShadow Estate?
A:  Depending upon your cell phone carrier (like T-Mobile) you may be able to use the WiFi and make and receive calls on your cell phone.  In addition there is a house phone that can be used for both incoming and outgoing calls.

Q:  Does GPS work to find MoonShadow Estate?
A:  Yes; however this is an 80 plus acre parcel.  We recommend using the written directions to arrive at MoonShadow Estate.

Q: What are the arrangements for dogs?
A: If you will be bringing pets, please discuss it with the staff in advance.  We may approve your dog to stay inside the home with prior approval and deposit.  In addition there is an open top cage provided within the garage for guests to place for their dog(s) to rest comfortably inside the garage, so dogs are protected from the wind, sun and rain.  They are contained to prevent them wandering away or chasing after deer.  Guests who bring pets and do not abide by these requirements, forfeit their security deposit.  By communicating about your family pet, we can make adjustments to improve your visit and protect MoonShadow Estate property.

Q: What kinds of food and extras should I bring?
A: You will want to plan your meals and shop accordingly.  Feel free to use the condiments, spices and incidentals you need from our kitchen; we only ask that if you empty an item, you replace it.  This means common kitchen necessities should be available to you at no cost  (salt, pepper, paper towels, jellies, sugar, general spices, etc.). Other items such as soaps, shampoos, tissue paper are available for your use as well in limited supply.  Of course, if you have particular needs, you will want to remember to pack those favorite items on your own.

Q: What kitchen items are available for preparing meals?
A: A large selection of cookware is available for your use: a large stock pot, skillets, muffin pan, cookie sheet, many sauce pans, etc.  Other helpful items include blender, toaster, hand mixer, wine opener, crock pot, large mixing/salad bowl, knife set, manual can opener.

Q:  What is the process for disposing of our garbage?
A:  All items that can be recycled should be recycled, all of these items should be separated and placed in plastic bags.  General waste and other trash should also be placed in plastic bags.  These items can all be placed in the labeled garbage cans within the garage.

Q: What are the fireplace wood arrangements and do I need to bring my own fire wood?
A: Inside the house there is a wood fireplace on the 2nd floor and a electric fireplaces on the 1st and 3rd floors.   There will be  wood stacked and ready for your use; there is no need to bring your own.   Outdoor fires provides a great place to relax and enjoy some quiet time, and as with many mountain areas, there are times during the year when outdoor fires may not be allowed.  We suggest checking with the local fire department before lighting a fire outside in the fire pit – outdoor fires are NOT allowed during high fire warning levels, and are never allowed outside of the fire pit.

Q: Are there any items that need to be addressed before departure?
A: We do request that you strip all the beds that were used and place the linens, along with any towels or other items in the laundry room on the lower level.  There is no need to wash them, but placing them in the lower level of the home is greatly appreciated.   Place remaining dirty dishes in the dish washer and turn on.  When leaving the property, please make sure that all lights are turned off and all the doors are locked.  We will take care of the rest.
